Agate Buyback Rates: The Published 2–3% Spread, With Worked Examples

Agate buys back bullion at the live market value minus roughly 2–3%. That spread is our published rate, and your exact price is confirmed in your quote before anything ships.

Most dealers make you ask what they pay. This page is the rate card instead: the spread we publish on agatepreciousmetals.com, worked through three real examples at tonight’s prices so you can check our math before you ever contact us. Market values use spot of $4,139.40 for gold and $53.21 for silver, checked November 4, 2026. Data by Bullion Price Check. Retail prices are Agate’s live listings the same evening.

The Rate Card, Worked

Piece Agate retail Market (melt) value Agate buyback (market − 2–3%)
1 oz Gold Eagle (BU) $4,420.79 $4,139.40 (1 oz at spot) $4,015–$4,057
2026 Silver Eagle (BU) $59.11 $53.21 (1 oz at spot) $51.61–$52.15
$100 face 90% junk silver $4,071.00 (at $40.71 per $1 face, quarters) $3,804.52 (71.5 oz at spot) $3,690–$3,728

Read the round trip honestly: buy the Gold Eagle at $4,420.79 and sell it back the same day and you receive about $4,015–$4,057 — a spread cost of roughly $364–$406, or about 8–9% of the purchase price, at tonight’s prices. That gap is the retail premium over spot plus the 2–3% buyback spread, and it is exactly the number a seller should see before buying, not after. The mechanics behind every dealer’s bid are in bullion buyback spreads explained, and the vocabulary — spot, melt, retail, bid — is in spot price vs. melt value vs. retail price vs. dealer bid.

What the 2–3% Covers

The spread is the whole charge — it covers testing and verification, the price risk we carry while metal is in transit and on our shelf, refining and resale costs, and our margin. There is no second fee behind it. For contrast, the widest spreads in this industry appear at pawn counters and in panic moments: in what happens at the coin counter when gold crashes we worked a real $900 offer made on $100 face of silver — a bid about 76% under melt. A published 2–3% spread exists so you never have to guess which kind of counter you are standing at.

How a Buyback Quote Works

1. Ask. Email [email protected] or call or text 716-829-9997 with the metal, the product, and the quantity. You do not need to be an existing Agate customer. 2. Confirm. We give you the current buyback price for your specific pieces and confirm the terms — including how and when you are paid — before you ship anything. 3. Ship. Send metal fully insured and tracked, with signature required on delivery; the transit risk is yours until it is delivered, so insure for full value. Local to Western New York? The same buyback runs by appointment — see selling in Buffalo and West Seneca, step by step. Two boundaries: bullion has no ordinary returns at Agate — the buyback is the exit route, at the buyback price — and collectible or numismatic pieces are quoted individually rather than off this card, because their value is not melt. Stackers selling pre-1965 coinage can price their pile first with the junk silver stacking guide’s face-value math.

Buyback Rate FAQ

How can I sell gold coins to Agate, and what will I get?

Contact us with what you have and we quote the current buyback price before you ship. For standard bullion the price is the live market value minus roughly 2–3% — at tonight’s $4,139.40 gold spot, a 1 oz Gold Eagle works out to about $4,015–$4,057.

Is the 2–3% spread the same for silver?

Yes — the published spread applies across the buyback program: gold, silver, platinum, and palladium bullion. The worked silver examples above use the same 2–3% math.

Why is the buyback below the retail price I paid?

Retail includes a premium over spot for fabrication, distribution, and availability; buyback starts at market value and subtracts the spread. The difference between the two is the round-trip cost of the position, shown in full in the table above.

Do you buy back coins you did not sell?

Yes. The buyback program is open to any seller, not just Agate customers — tell us the metal, product, and quantity and we will quote it.

Can I just return bullion instead?

No — bullion has no ordinary returns because prices move constantly. The buyback on this page is the exit: we buy the metal back at the buyback price. Non-bullion accessories follow the store’s 7-day return policy.

Rates and prices were checked on November 4, 2026 and move with the live markets; your confirmed quote is the price that governs your sale. This page explains Agate’s published buyback program; it is not an offer to buy any specific item sight unseen.
